Does Hypnosis Really Work?
- Nick K.
Does hypnosis work? There are two answers to these questions, and they are: yes, and no.
Yes, it does work on someone who is susceptible to the suggestions of a hypnotist. If the unconscious is weak enough to get manipulated by a hypnotist, then yes the technique works. The effects are usually most obvious in magic acts where the magician gets someone from the audience, hypnotise them and then manipulate them to do certain acts like act like a monkey, or a cat, or even a frog. The subject usually has no control over their actions when they are under the influence of hypnosis and they usually are not aware that they are doing the acts suggested to them. However, the influence on the subject may be in varying degrees. There are those who are strongly influence, and there are those who are only mildly influenced.
The second answer, is the no, it does not work. There are some individuals whose mental barriers are very strong and they have a strong sense of self-preservation. Even if they willingly pull down their mental guards, their unconscious is still very much aware of the manipulation and would just strike back against it. These individuals hardly get influenced by anyone, they are strong willed and they have a strong sense of control over their emotions.
Now some people may argue that both of the answers are false. There is no such thing as hypnosis and it is all just a scam. Well, point is, hypnosis has been around for thousands of years and has been used for therapy. The only thing is, it was not known as hypnotism then, this is a modern terminology. In history it was considered a lot of things, and mostly evil terms like sorcery, witchcraft, the devil’s work and blasphemy.
Whatever the name, hypnosis has been around for a long time. It continues to be used today to benefit those who are sick, have habits they want to break or abused by the unethical who wish to control others. Whatever the use, this thing does work, on the people who are susceptible.
